DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
An employee in this position works in a supportive role to assist the library staff in providing library services to the public. Work involves maintaining shelf order, packing and storing books, keeping areas clean and neat and performing other supportive tasks. Work requires a willingness to perform routine tasks accurately and with reasonable physical stamina. The employee is trained, supervised, and evaluated by the Assistant Directors.
Shelves books and straightens and organizes shelves.
Assist in maintaining overall appearance of library.
Shifts books when overcrowding exists.
Weeds magazines and newspapers as directed.
Empties bookdrop daily.
Assists in distributing publicity.
Packs and stores books.
Assists staff with presenting library programs and preparing program materials.
Keeps areas of the library clean and neat.
Ability to perform routine work accurately and completely.
Ability to lift boxes of books weighing up to 40 lbs.
Ability to perform a variety of tasks.
Ability to relate well to the public, including ability to make referrals to appropriate professional and paraprofessional staff when approached with reference questions by the public.
Ability to work regular evenings and weekends.
Ability to put numbers in decimal order and to alphabetize word-by-word.
No previous work experience required.
Must have completed 9th grade successfully.
